WHY I SUPPORT

THE NGO PURE OCEAN

It is evident that one of the major challenges facing our society today is the current climate change. The causes and effects of this climate disruption are numerous, and many of them are due to human activity, particularly the loss of terrestrial and marine biodiversity, which is both a cause and a result of this disruption. Indeed, our seas and oceans are essential for regulating temperatures and rainfall, as well as capturing CO2, one of the greenhouse gases. However, they are also victims of current global warming, with marine species shifting or disappearing, and major ocean currents, which regulate our climate, being altered. But the health of our seas and oceans also depends on what we do on land, through runoff caused by rain and the quality of our rivers’ waters. This is the reason for the “green tides in Brittany,” caused by the excessive amounts of nitrates released into the sea due to inappropriate fertilization and soil erosion from plowing, the presence of pesticides in the oceans, and the disappearance of certain coastal fish due to water pollution and/or the excessive capture of organic matter by river and stream developments.

As a farmer, I am both a “victim” of this disruption, needing to find solutions to continue producing healthy and good grapes, and also, and more importantly, an actor who, through my farming practices, can be part of the solution to “repair” our climate and the health of our oceans. This can be done by capturing carbon (CO2), preventing runoff and soil erosion, producing coolness and water through regenerative agriculture and soil conservation practices: no-till farming, cover crops, agroforestry, installing solar panels on my buildings, creating swales and keylines—practices that also allow me to produce healthy grapes that reflect my terroir with very few inputs.

Additionally, I support other nature conservation projects financially, particularly those focused on ocean preservation. This is the reason for the creation of the Odyssée cuvée and my commitment to donate €2 to the NGO PURE OCEAN for every bottle of Odyssée cuvée sold.
